Library Procedure Handbook

ILL Remote Procedures

Is this an ILL?

  • You will know an item is an ILL if it is:
    • 1) Coming in the mail/courier from another library AND/OR
    • 2) It has paperwork with it that says "Interlibrary Loan"

Ok, I think I have an ILL item, now what do I do with it?

If it belongs to LTC (i.e. has an LTC barcode)

  • Check it in under the "Check in" screen
  • Email the title and library barcode to Ashley so she can update it in OCLC/WISCAT

If it belongs to another library and has been sent to LTC for one of our patrons (Borrowing):

  • Notify the patron on the ILL slip that their book is ready for pickup. Keep all paperwork with the book and give to the patron. This will have their due date as well. No need to do anything in Sierra or WISCAT/OCLC/Manitowoc but you MUST do the next step:
  • Send Ashley the following information:
    • The number on the slip (if there is a slip)
    • The barcode off the item (if no slip)
    • The title of the item
    • The name of the patron

If our patron is RETURNING an ILL item and it needs to be sent back to a another library:

  • Check in the item by scanning the slip (if it has one)
  • If it doesn't have a slip, check it in by scanning the barcode on the book
  • Send Ashley the following information:
    • The number on the slip (if there is a slip)
    • The barcode off the item (if no slip)
    • The title of the item
    • The name of the patron
  • Leave item on Ashley's desk - she will prepare it for return when she is back onsite (Note: If you feel comfortable preparing the ILL for return, please feel free to do so).

Note on Lending:

Ashley may email you to request that you pull an item to send to another library. She will send separate instructions as the need for this arises.
