Carrie Lane Chapman Catt Girlhood Home (Charles City, IA)
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this is the childhood home of suffrage leader Carrie Lane Chapman. Carrie grew up in Iowa, but she was born in Ripon, WI!
First Ladies National Historic Site (Canton, OH)
A national library and historic site that honors the wives of many U.S. presidents.
Ida B. Wells-Barnett House (Chicago, IL)
A National Historic Landmark, this is the home of Ida B. Wells-Barnett, the African-American civil rights activist and early investigative journalist who was born right before the Emancipation Proclamation.
Laura Ingalls Wilder Wayside & Cabin (Pepin, WI)
This is the original site of writer Laura Ingalls Wilder's birth. Here, visit a re-creation of the Ingalls family cabin, as described in the Little House on the Prairie books. Enjoy a self-guided tour. The Wayside Cabin is open all year long, 24/7.
Madame C.J. Walker Building (Indianapolis, IN)
Listed as a National Historic Landmark, this was once the headquarters and manufacturing plant of Madam CJ Walker Hair Care and Beauty Products. Now the building houses a non-profit organization that preserves the legacy of Madam CJ Walker, America's first self-made female millionaire, by providing cultural education, promoting social justice, supporting entrepreneurship and empowering youth.
Strutwear Knitting Company Building (Minneapolis MN)
This was the site of an important battle in the labor movement, where nearly 900 female workers participated in a strike during the 1930s against the company’s anti-union policies. It was a triumph for the female workers who had initially been excluded from union membership. This building is now home to apartments.
