Native American Heritage Month

Introduction

In August 1990, Public Law 101-343 set the month-long observation of National American Indian Heritage Month (also called Native American Heritage Month) in November. President George H. W. Bush issued a proclamation in November 1990 to recognize the event. The proclamation acknowledged Native Americans as the country's original inhabitants and recognized their many achievements and contributions. Each year, the current president issues a new proclamation.
