Library Basics

How do I get to the LTC library?

Take West Campus Drive, veering right onto Voechting Drive. If you're a visitor, park in the one-hour visitor parking spots in Lot 1 or Lot 4.  Enter doors L4, and you'll see the Student Resource Center directly in front of you. Lost? Take a look at the map or give us a call at 920.693.1130

How late is the library open?

We are open Monday – Friday year-round, except for college-recognized holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & the day after, Dec.24th-Jan 1st). We're closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Check the Library homepage for our hours, as they change in between semesters. 

 

Can people from the community come and use the library?

Yes, we welcome community members to our library. To use the computers and/or print, community members may stop by the circulation desk to get login information. Cost for printing is 10 cents per black and white page or 50 cents per color page.

 

How do I use a study room?

Study rooms are available first-come, first-serve and are checked out in 2-hour increments. Users can renew the room as long as no one is waiting for one. Students are given priority, but staff can reserve a room for use with a student.

What do I need to check out a book?

You need your LTC Student ID.

Where do I get my LTC Student ID card?

Get your free LTC Student ID card at the Welcome Center/Student Services in the Lakeshore Building of the Cleveland campus. Take your photo and pick up your card in a few minutes. You must have an active Student ID card to borrow laptops and tablets. 

How long can I check out a book?

Most books are able to be checked out for one month. Course textbooks and materials have varied checkout lengths.

How do I renew my items? 

Most library materials may be renewed in person; over the phone (920) 693-1130; or log into "My Account" on the menu to the left. If you sign up for text notifications (in My Account > Edit account > enter mobile phone no. and check "Opt In"), you can reply to a recieved text notification with RENEW.

Can I place a hold on a book?

You can! Search for the item you want in the library catalog. Click "Request it". Log in with your first or last name and Student ID number. Click Submit. You will get an email in your LTC email when the item is ready to be picked up at the Library Desk. 

What happens if I don’t return the material I checked out from the Library?

All library material are free to borrow! But if items (over $30) are not returned by their due date, they are considered overdue. Once an item is overdue, the library sends you three overdue notices (one each week) and a final bill (on the fourth week) stating item replacement costs via mail, email, or both. If we don’t hear from you within that month, we turn your library balance over to LTC Student Billing. They then issue a pre-collection notice asking you to contact them within 30 days to make payment or return the item(s). After two months of contacting you with no response, your account balance is sent to the Wisconsin State Debt Collection (SDC). Once your debt is given to WI SDC, you now own the item. You can call 1.608.266.7879 to work with Wisconsin State Debt Collection (SDC) to pay off the replacement cost of the items.

How do I check if my course textbooks & materials are available in the library?

Search the library catalog above by course name, instructor's last name, book title, or ISBN. In the facets on the left-hand side, click to expand Instructor or Course to see other courses or instructors and the material we have. Place a Hold by clicking on Request It.

How do I log in to the LTC Library Databases?

Proxy Portal

Students:
Login: student ID #
Password: network login password (same used to log into campus computers.)

If you forgot your password or are unable to log in, passwords can be reset by contacting the Help Desk

Staff: 
Login: network credential (ex. kecar or jado)
Password: network/email password


Printing

How much does printing on campus cost?

Printing cost 5 cents per page for black ink and 50 cents per page for color ink. Price is the same for single or double-sided prints, so it saves you money to print double-sided!

How much printing money do I start with each semester?

$10.00 per semester (fall, summer, spring)

How do I add money to my printing account?

See a library staff member to add credit to your Print Manager account. Student Services, LTC Manitowoc, and LTC Sheboygan front desk staff can also add additional funds to your printing account. Cash or check only.


Computers

Are laptops available for students?

Yes, current students enrolled in at least one undergraduate-level course and in good standing with the College may check out a laptop. Laptops may be renewed for as long as needed, or until there someone waiting on hold. Bring your LTC Student ID card to the Library Desk. We will read and review the checkout terms and conditions the first time you check out a laptop. Headphones, hotspots, portable CD/DVD drives, and flash drives are also available for checkout. 

How do I check out a tablet or eReader? 

Tablets such as iPads, Microsoft Surfaces, Kindle Fires, and Samsung Galaxy Tablets may be borrowed if you are a current student enrolled in at least one undergraduate-level course. See what devices are available on the Devices & Equipment page. Check out a device at the Library Desk. You'll need to show an LTC Student ID card and only one device may be borrowed at a time.

Where can I go to get my personal computer fixed?

The Computer Repair Center (CPR, Room 119A) is run by IT Support Specialist Students and is typically open over the lunch hour starting a few weeks into the semester. The repair center opens in late September and late February. Services are typically free of charge. 

I think I left my flash drive in a Library Computer!

Check in the computer you were working at or stop at the Library Desk to see if someone turned it in. The Library staff will typically check for a name on the first file they see and send an email to the owner's LTC email address. 

I forgot my flash drive at home and need to save my work!

You can save documents (Save As function) to your H drive (which is labeled with your student ID number). You can only access your H drive from an LTC computer.  You can also save to OneDrive (Save As function) choose folder labeled "OneDrive - gotoltc.edu". You can access this at home when you log into Office 365. Click on the OneDrive folder.
